Barnes Foundation Groundbreaking Shovel Shadow box Frame

The renowned Barnes Foundation, long of Latchs Lane in Merion, finally broke ground on a new $150 million museum building along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia.
We were contacted to frame one of the 27 shovels used in the cerimony.
Here are some picture of the project from starting with raw wood and a simply design.

We chose ash wood for the frame as it is the same wood used for the shaft and handle of the shovel. The shovel was mounted to a neutral linen fabric wrapped backing board. UV acrylic was used for the glazing.

We just framed 6 incredible images for Danielle Conkling. She's having a First Friday opening the evening of October 2, 2009 at Angler Movement Art Center located at 1550 E Montgomery Avenue in Philadelphia. For more info, visit http://www.anglermovementartscenter.com/ or call 215-922-0866.

"I collect old images, cherish them, destroy and reassemble them to create an idol that is both potent and ambiguous. The collage object is then fetishized through the drawing process. The result is a series of phantasmagoric icons, removed from time and place."
An Oregon native, Danielle Conkling received a BFA in Painting from the University of South Florida, and currently lives and works in Philadelphia. Go see the show (!!) & visit http://www.danielleconkling.com/ for more information about Danielle.
