The Art of Steel. The transformation of raw, coarse, industrial grade steel into a contemporary picture frame is like a metamorphosis. Angle iron or flat bar steel is cut and welded to exact dimensions. The frame is then hand ground to match one of our eleven custom grinding patterns. Each frame is sprayed with a durable sealing finish to protect the steel from oxidizing. The frame is fit with a wood core to allow custom fitting of your artwork. The result is a elegant framing solution to complement prints, drawings, photography and canvases.

Barnes Foundation Groundbreaking Shovel Shadow box Frame

The renowned Barnes Foundation, long of Latchs Lane in Merion, finally broke ground on a new $150 million museum building along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia.

We were contacted to frame one of the 27 shovels used in the cerimony.

Here are some picture of the project from starting with raw wood and a simply design.

We chose ash wood for the frame as it is the same wood used for the shaft and handle of the shovel. The shovel was mounted to a neutral linen fabric wrapped backing board. UV acrylic was used for the glazing.

Public Service: New Paper Cutouts by Joe Boruchow

We just finished framing the newest papercut outs for Philadelphia artist Joe Boruchow.

Trinity Framing has had the pleasure of working with Joe for the last five years. He continues to amaze us with his artwork and skill with which he executes each image.

Public Service is the new exhibition of paper cutouts by Joe Boruchow. The self taught DC native, who has lived inPhiladelphia for the past 13 years, presents a healthy dose of social criticism with his new collection. All the cutouts were designed to be made into posters that have become a familiar sight on local telephone poles. The sometimes controversial images can be titillating (see Nude With Comics) or provocative (Canine Fecal Death Act) and are always striking in their stark black and white design. Seeing the scale and delicacy of the actual paper cutouts mounted on white satin at The Bean Cafe is a display of craftsmanship that keeps you looking while the satirical and narrative elements of Boruchow's work reveal themselves. Public Service is a preface to the release of his graphic novel, Stuffed Animals: A story in Paper Cutouts which was awarded the 2009 Xeric Grant for Graphic Fiction and is scheduled for release in February.

From her recent travels to Iceland where she was married to her husband Walter,directly before his departure for Iraq. Kent has indulged in the morbid fantasy that his return may never come. Turning her camera on the hillside glaciers where her wedding took place,Kent explores her quixotic emotions within a harsh and sublime landscape. Illusory and romance, Kent's photographs reveal the timeless longing of a soldier's wife.

Too long and too busy since our last blog post.

Too busy??? We are not complaining! It has been a great summer with exciting projects.

A special Thanks to all of our amazing customers, from art galleries across the city to the

walk-in customer around the corner. We couldn't do it without you!

So before we gear up for a busy fall we decided to take a day off for a "work meeting"

at Trinity had an awesome time and a well deserved day off.

Richard Saja installation at the Shelburne Museum in Vermont

The Shelburne Museum writes of its May 17 - October 25, 2009 exhibition:

New York textiles designer Richard Saja channels his cheeky sense of humor and sophisticated style into transforming the interior of Shelburne Museum's Kalkin House into a 19th - century salon infused with his characteristic "historically inaccurate" take on tradition.

The site-specific installation includes new works in a variety of materials inspired by archetypal salon decor and objects in Shelburne Museum's collections, including quilts, sillouhette portraits and needlework.
